If we cast our minds back to the 1960s in the US railway car industry, only 5% of railway cars were on the move at any given time. This wasn't due to trade unions or the railway cars needing a rest. The real issue was that the owners had no idea where their railway cars were.
Fast forward to today, we have incredible technologies like GPS, IoT, telematics, and RFID tags that have revolutionized the industry. These advancements have empowered railway car owners with real-time location data, transforming how they manage and utilize their assets.
Imagine if those owners back in the 1960s could have doubled their utilization rate from 5% to 10% – they would have needed only half as many cars!
Think about the impact this would have had on people, the planet, and profits. Reduced costs, lower environmental impact, and increased efficiency. This is the power of technology when applied thoughtfully and strategically.
