Sweden, Innovative Ideas, and New Year's Resolutions

14 Dec 2006

Hi friends,

I have arrived safe and sound in Stockholm, Sweden after a long flight from Sydney. 30 degrees and swimming at Balmoral was rapidly exchanged for + 5 and 4 hours sun light per day. This of course makes for the perfect time to post some blogging insights, to read some great books and connect with interesting and exciting people.

Today I had lunch with one of the two Swedish Management Funksters Dr Jonas Ridderstrale, author of Funky Business: Talent Makes Capital Dance and Karaoke Capitalism. An inspiring man and truly someone who thinks outside the square of the orthodox, old and dusty. A man at the forefront of global developments and someone who has inspired many of our trainings and coaching methodologies. His and Dr Nordstrom's research has laid the basis for many a powerpoint slide and I am grateful to be living in a world where we set an intention and all of a sudden we are meeting with a ground-breaking author on the other side of the world. Things move fast in a funky business world.

On the flight over I watched Al Gore's movie An Inconvenient Truth - vow, what a trip. We at Thinque have been looking for a worthwhile charitable cause to invest some of our business proceeds in in 2007 and beyond and this may very well constitute a major portion of that vision. People should definitely have a view of this movie and make their minds up about the pros and cons of arguments. My point of view is that if we need to find innovative solutions a la www.ted.com to move beyond the Kyoto paradigm and find a more meaningful debate where we are all taking responsibility for our waste and emissions.

It is coming to that time of the year again when we set New Year's resolutions. I encourage you take the time to think about what you are most grateful for in 2006, who you have positively influenced, what your contributions have been, what the fun times have been and to take inventory of your life in 2006. Have an attitude of gratitude for all the good things in life that we sometimes take for granted - your health, your athleticism, your working brain, your friendships, family and relationships. Then focus on how you as an individual can make an even greater contribution to the world in 2007 and then get ready to receive. In the recent movie The Secret the law of attraction is being propounded as a powerful force, and I agree that it is. We need to take the equation to the next level on New Year's though and aks ourselves what we can give before we receive. Energy flows around the world and we will truly be deserving of rewards when we have moved beyond the egocentric paradigm of the focus on just getting. Let us make 2007 the year when we first give and then receive. Make sure you sig up for the Thinque goal-setting guide to make sure you write and visualise your goals so that they actually happen.

With that in mind, go with the flow, and let the force be with you!

Kind regards

Anders
