This isn’t science fiction. It happened. And it was one of the most ingenious marketing campaigns of the last decade.
In my keynote in Las Vegas, I shared the captivating backstory behind Ex Machina’s marketing campaign. The movie’s team set up a chatbot on Tinder that geocontextually interacted with users, fooling them into thinking they were chatting with a real person.
The twist? After a flirtatious exchange, the bot directed users to Instagram—only for them to land on a page saying: "You've been digitally hacked... here's a promotion for a movie about AI"
It wasn’t just a clever stunt. It was an unsettling demonstration that AI can now mimic human conversation so convincingly that it passes the Turing test. And if AI can do this on Tinder, what does that mean for how we interact with technology in business, marketing, and daily life?
This moment forces us to ask some big questions:
✅ Can we still trust digital interactions? If AI can mimic humans so seamlessly, what safeguards do we need?
✅ Where do we draw the ethical line? AI is already being used in sales, customer service, and even therapy. Should there be transparency when we’re talking to a bot?
