In this podcast I talk about my most challenging client, my mum, who runs a menswear shop in Stockholm, Sweden. The digitisation and consequently the rise of eCommerce stores has fundamentally changed the clothing retail industry and thus the market in which her business operates. These trends have swept away many of the business' competitive advantages that in the past differentiated her store from the competitors. Moreover, I argue in this podcast that business leaders (my mum included) must become futurephiles and learn how to embrace change and explore the opportunities that lie ahead.
I also make the case in this podcast that the future will not be as dehumanised as many of my futurist colleagues argue. On the contrary, I believe that tacit knowledge, creativitity, problem-solving skills and emotional intelligence will be increasingly important in the future. The business leaders and organisations that learn how to seamlessly combine these human skills and amplify them with the right technology are those that will sustain a competitive advantage.
