During recent years Amazon have been putting lots of time and resources into developing air drones. This new delivery system which is currently under development is designed to safely deliver packages to customers within 30 minutes.
The last version of their drone is not just a quadcopter - it's part helicopter and part air plane as it can take off and land vertically, but also fly horizontally. According to
TechCrunch the drone can cover over 15 miles and fly over 55 mph. The version we see in the video above is suitable for more rural and suburban areas.
Due to strict regulations from FAA in the U.S. it's more likely that they drone delivery system will be launched in UK or Israel where they have also tested the unmanned aerial vehicles.
By developing and testing their own air drones for delivery of Amazon products they are taking another step in vertically integrating a vital part of the supply chain. Another example of this is when they launched the Amazon Kindle Fire tablet which became a bridge between hardware and e-commerce.
Amazon is not the only tech giant who is investing in this technology, Google also has plans to launch a drone delivery system in the near future. As a matter of fact the head of Google's Project Wing program, Dave Vos said during a Air Traffic Control Conference in November this year that they aim to launch the
drone delivery system in 2017.
There are many obstacles for Amazon and Google to overcome before drone delivery becomes a reality and a potential delivery option for the masses, despite this I'm certain that this seamless way of delivering products will be increasingly common in the near future.
